ISCC and MAT Condemn Stabbing at the Canadian Armed Forces Recruitment Centre

(Saskatoon) The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada and the Muslims Against Terrorism strongly condemn the recent stabbing at the Canadian Armed Forces Centre in Toronto. Based upon the initial media reports it seems that this is an individual act. This should not be linked with the Canadian Muslims OR Islam. We do not know the mental state of the individual.

These unfortunate tragedies are getting frequent and most of the time it is due to the mental illness. It is government’s responsibility to look into the issues of mental illness and proactively provide assistance to the individuals. We urge the media not to use such crimes to create Islamophobia. A criminal is a criminal regardless of his/her religion, colour of skin, language and ethnicity. Regardless what the attacker said before attacking or whatever reason the attacker gives this horrible crime must not be linked with the broader Muslim community or Islam. We strongly condemn it.

For inquiry please contact Imam Syed Soharwardy at 403-831-6330 OR 416-994-5467.
