ISCC and MAT Strongly Condemn Terrorism Against Christians in Sri Lanka

(Calgary) The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada (ISCC) and the Muslim Against Terrorism (MAT) strongly condemn today’s terrorist attacks on three churches and three hotels in Sri Lanka which have killed more than 140 innocent people and wounded more than 500. This is horrible and unbelievable coordinated effort against the Christians while they were celebrating Easter. The multiple explosions rocked three churches and three luxury hotels in Sri Lanka during Easter Sunday mass. The coordinated blasts took place at churches in capital city Colombo and the towns of Negombo and Batticaloa, as well as at three hotels.

“We are extremely saddened by this tragedy. The attacks on Christian worshipers are in fact attack on Muslims and people of all faiths. This terrorism against Christians celebrating their holiest event is terrorism against all of us”, said Imam Syed Soharwardy today. We express our sympathies and condolences with the victims and their families. We pray for the speedy recovery of the wounded.

ISCC and MAT demand that the Sri Lankan government must arrest these terrorists immediately to face justice. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our Christian brothers and sisters in Sri Lanka and around the world. ISCC will be observing a moment of silence today (April 21) at 6:00 PM at the Chestermere Recreation Centre, Chestermere, Alberta. Everyone is invited.
