(Calgary) The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada (ISCC) and the Muslim Against Terrorism (MAT) is reminding Canadian Muslims and all visible minorities to vote in the upcoming federal elections in order to protect the freedom of all Canadians. These are critical elections for the protection of the Canadian Charter of Rights. Mr. Harper has decided to use the cheap tactics of division and fear in order to get few more votes. This is the most dangerous tactics which is threatening the freedom of all Canadians. The old tactics of divide and rule should not be allowed in Canada. Mr. Harper is trying to create Categories of citizenship in Canada which do exist in countries ruled by dictators and corrupt rulers. Canadians should not allow such a rule in this country. Canada should not be taken backward.

“It is not only our civic duty to vote but it is also our religious duty to stand up against racism, discrimination and Islamophobia”, said Imam Syed Soharwardy today. The policies of Mr. Harper regarding Syrian refugees, Niqab, security and intelligence gathering is clearly rising Islamophobia and fear in Canada. Canadians are smarter people and will not be influenced by the politics of fear and division. ISCC and MAT stood up against the radicalization and terrorism way before Mr. Harper did anything about it. Canadian Muslims do love the Canadian values and respect the laws of the country just like all other Canadians.

The recent attacks on Muslims and mosques in Québec and Ontario are clear evidence of rising Islamophobia in Canada. Yesterday’s incident in Calgary where a person was wearing confederated flag on his face and threatening people gave heads-up to all Canadians that the policies of Mr. Harper should be held responsible for creating misunderstandings about Canadian Muslims.
