ISCC Establishes Freedom of Speech Centre

Centre provides a platform to Calgarians / Canadians to express themselves

Calgary)  The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada has taken one more step towards educating new immigrants and Canadian Muslims about the importance of free speech. ISCC has established Freedom of Speech Centre in Calgary. We are hoping that the freedom of speech centre will provide a platform to Calgarians / Canadians to express their opinions without preconditions or fear of backlash.

What is freedom of speech and why it is important to Canadians?  How Muslims should live in a multifaith and multicultural society? What are the pros and cons of a secular / free society? How Islam lives in a multifaith society?  The answers to these important questions are very important for new Canadians.

We will be inviting people who may have doubts, questions, concerns or issues about the teachings of Islam and the Muslims in general.

We need to teach our youth and elders how to handle difference of opinions.  We are planning to invite speakers who might have written or have spoken against Islam and Muslims.  We are trying to establish dialogue with them.

“We are already in discussion with several faith groups to organize Multifaith Walk Against Violence in cities and towns across Canada. This is our first priority. The establishment of Freedom of Speech Centre is our second task.” said Imam Syed Soharwardy today.

“The Freedom of Speech Centre will be holding its first program early next year.  Until a permanent location for the Freedom of Speech Centre is found, the centre will operate in the Al Madinah Calgary Islamic Centre, 5700 Falsbridge Dr., Calgary N.E.
