Calgary Faith Communities to Protest Proposed Quebec Law

Calgary) The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada (ISCC) along with the several other faith based organizations will be holding a protest rally against the proposed Quebec law which restricts the freedom of religion in Quebec.  The rally will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 3:00 PM in front of the Harry Hayes Federal Building, Calgary downtown.

A variety of faith groups will gather to say no to the proposed law that would ban religious dress by the provincial employees in the province of Quebec. “It is shameful that a minority government in Quebec is trying to divide the community.  This Taliban like style neither fits in Canada nor in Quebec”, said Imam Syed Soharwardy, founder of the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada.

Why the Quebec government is trying to take Quebec backward? Every citizen has the right to choose his/her dress, beliefs and the life style.  It’s not government’s business to dictate people what to believe and how to dress.

This proposed faithless legislation of Quebec government will put the secularism in jeopardy. Secularism is secular because it does not endorse a specific faith or beliefs. However, what the Quebec government is trying to impose is the atheism on the people of faith against their will. This proposed law is against the freedom to choose, the freedom of religion and the freedom to express.  This law is against all the values of the Canadian and the Quebec society.

ISCC is urging all Calgarians to attend this peaceful rally on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 3:00 PM in front of the Harry Hayes Federal Building, Calgary downtown.

For more information please contact Imam Syed Soharwardy at 403-831-6330 OR Merle Terlesky at 403-245-0242 OR 403-955-8178 (ask for Merle).
