As’Salaam Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu,
Around a year ago I signed up to an agency which worked specifically with SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) children for my university project. At first, I wasn’t too keen however, after the first few days I loved working there I really enjoyed myself. While working there I can appreciate that I may be putting myself at some sort of risk as the children are Autistic and can potentially hit. However during my time there they have never harmed me nor done anything extreme as I have always managed to control my students. I have a deep passion with working with these kids however my parents do not approve. After one of my mothers’ friend had told her that a child had hit her with excessive force which has to lead her to leave her job my parents now fear that the same could happen to me. Although I have worked with these kids for just under a year and there was never an issue, but after COVID and being at home all the time I feel as though my parents have returned to their old ways. Please, I would like to know whether my parents are right or wrong and whether I should or shouldn’t be working in such schools.
Jazak’ Allah keir
