ISCC and MAT Strongly Condemn Misogyny Against Niqab Wearing Muslim Women in Quebec

Government has no right to dictate what to wear and how to wear dress

(Montreal) The Muslim Against Terrorism and the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada, a national Canadian Islamic organization are deeply disturbed by the Quebec National Assembly’s misogynistic legislation dictating Muslim women how to dress.  A very small minority of Muslim women wear veil (Niqab) due to their religious beliefs.  Niqab is part of their dress. Bill 62 infringes their freedom.

The Premier of Quebec Mr. Philippe Couillard has shown his true colours today. He used Provincial Liberal Party to legislate what former Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper could not do. He lost the elections.  Mr. Couillard will face the same results in the next provincial elections.

This dirty and opportunist politics of divisiveness and discrimination will increase Islamophobia and violence against Muslims in Quebec and across Canada. Bill 62 will also open the door for making more laws against visible minorities.  Just like Donald Trump has taken America backward Mr. Couillard has taken Quebec backward.  Canadians and Quebeckers are smart people. They won’t allow another Donald Trump in Canada. ISCC and MAT will hold Mr. Couillard responsible for any violence in Canada against Niqab wearing Muslim women.

ISCC and MAT are requesting all peace-loving people of Quebec to stand up against Misogyny and demand that the government of Quebec must withdraw Bill 62.
