ISCC and MAT Strongly Condemn Terrorist Attacks on Muslim Worshipers During Friday Prayers at an Egyptian Mosque

(Calgary) The Islamic Supreme Council of Canada (ISCC) and Muslims Against Terrorism (MAT) strongly condemn today’s terrorist attacks at Bir Al Abed Mosque in Sinai, Egypt which killed at least 235 Muslim worshipers and injured more than 109. This was the deadliest attack in Egypt’s history.

Regardless of sectarian or denomination differences among Muslims it is not possible a Muslim would commit such a heinous crime against Muslim worshipers while they were praying Friday prayer in a mosque.  These attacks clearly indicate that anti-Muslim anti-Islam Islamophobe hate mongers are responsible. No Muslim can even imagine attacking on a mosque while Muslims are offering Friday prayer.

We are asking United Nations Secretary General Mr. António Guterres to appoint an independent international committee to investigate this tragic incident. “I strongly believe today’s attacks on the Egyptian mosque cannot be carried out by any Muslim. It is international community’s responsibility to go to the bottom of this mess and find out the truth. Who are behind these attacks”, said Imam Syed Soharwardy today.

We want those who were behind these attacks must not only be brought to justice, but their affiliations, beliefs and people involved must be exposed publicly. Therefore, a thorough investigations is necessary.

We pray for our brothers and sisters who were killed in these attacks. Our prayers and deep sympathies are with the victims and their families. ISCC and MAT will be holding three days of prayers for the victims at the Green Dome Mosque, 4616 – 80th Avenue, NE Calgary daily at 7:30 PM.

For any questions please contact Imam Syed Soharwardy at 1-416-994-5467.
